The external hex head is ideal for installation / removal using a wrench or hex driver.
The threaded section generally has spaced threads (coarse threading) and a sharp point for securely gripping wooden boards, studs & soft materials.
Snap-Loc lag screws have a fully threaded body with a built-in washer head for distributing loads over a large area.
Selected models are partially threaded and have a shoulder instead of a fully threaded shank / body to protect them from loosening. They prevent breakage / bending due to friction-induced overheating or sideway forces.
